‘Picking Up The Thread: the past, present and future of tapestry’
The British Tapestry Group was set up in 2005 and to celebrate this we are holding an exhibition in which Full UK, Student and Rest of the World Members of the British Tapestry Group are invited to submit their work.
Exhibition details
Up to three completed tapestries can be submitted. A series (e.g. a triptych) will count as one work.
These must have been woven since January 2022.
The submission fee is £15 for up to three tapestries with an additional fee of £20 for each work when accepted. The fees will be used towards postal returns and other expenses.
Tapestry: discontinuous and predominantly weft faced - if you are uncertain, please contact exhibition@thebritishtapestrygroup.co.uk who will be able to advise you.
No materials are excluded.
Size: Maximum 2m in any direction (if a series, the entire work must be no more than 2m).
3D work on a plinth - the footprint must be no bigger than 50cms x 50cms and a maximum height of 150cms. The work must sit securely on the plinth.
3D floor standing – footprint no bigger than 1m x 1m, maximum height 2m
Key dates
- February 5th – Submission process opens
- Sunday 30th March 2025 – submission deadline for entries.
- Successful applicants will be notified of their acceptance by Sunday 1st June 2025 at the latest.
- Works must be received by Friday 1st August: address details to follow.
Exhibition dates
- 16th August – 4th October 2025: Gracefield Arts Centre, Dumfries.
- 18th November 2025 – 14th February 2026: Dovecot Studios, Edinburgh.
- 2nd – 18th March 2026: Ocean Studios, Plymouth.
- 13th – 26th July 2026 Morley Gallery, London.
