I work with textiles and mixed media but am predominately a tapestry weaver. Most of my work uses muted colours, some dyed using my own natural dyes, and is heavily influenced by the environment surrounding me. The textural element of tapestry is important to me enhanced by the use of driftwood and other found objects in many of my tapestries. Mostly I work intuitively, sometimes using photos or sketches as memory aids.
The work is mostly small scale using predominately natural yarns, cotton, silk and nettle, but I will use other yarns to achieve the effect I am looking for.
I learnt to weave many years ago but am still experimenting, most recently with using wire warp to manipulate pieces.
